Jerad Marantz Internship/Mentorship

So this upload is a little different from what I usually post. This past summer (2022) I had an amazing opportunity. Jerad Marantz, a life-long connection I have had took me under his wing and mentored me for an entire summer. I was assigned many projects and had a lot of hands on experience with how the industry works and what the industry expects out of artists. For a big chunk of it, I had to study anatomy and structure. I did tons and tons of anatomical studies and portraits. After that and at the end of the internship, I got to design some creatures alongside him. I specifically was tasked with designing Alien Outlaws that would fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I had to go through a lot of revisions until I really figured out what Marvel would look for in 'rough sketches'. This opportunity was amazing and I had so much fun. It really helped but a lot of things into perspective for me. I am forever grateful.

My Outlaws in black and white. I never got around to coloring them because the internship ended and school immediately started back up.

A side-by-side drawing comparison. My (LEFT) attempt at drawing a base female creature model and on the right is Jerads attempt. His work really puts mine to shame hahah.

Breaking down my characters into basic shapes and straight lines. Jerad made me do this with almost all my assignments to help me with structure in my designs.

Collection of reference. Jerad really helped me realize how important reference is. He harped on me about how important GOOD reference is too. Never use choppy or low-res files.
